Socks and Books

Yesterday was the start of the Summer of Socks 2008. I started my first pair of sock before heading to Poky for the Spinner's monthly meeting. The first picture is how much I had done when I got off work Saturday. Valerie, I didn't like how they were looking so I ripped them out and restarted. The second sock picture is of the socks today, going down about eight stitches in the circumference and casting on a fewer number of stitches at the toe. I did the figure eight cast on for the first time and I like how it worked. The pattern is working up very quickly and makes a perfect project for watching tv.

Yesterday, on the way to Poky, I kept trying to remind myself to take pictures at the guild meeting. On the way home it dawned on me that I hadn't even gotten my camera out of my purse. I so wanted to get a picture, because this was probably the last guild meeting I would be able to attend! I know I will miss seeing all my fiber friends. Edie was reminding me of what I was like when I first started attending the guild meetings.

I would go to where they were holding the meeting and sit and watch! I would then go home and take my spinning wheel out of the car and sit and mimic what I had seen. I thought I wasn't nearly good enough to bring my wheel inside and have everyone see what I was working on. It was about two or three months after starting to attend that they, Edie - Anna Lucy - Lu - and Phyllis (those are the ones that I remember, but there may have been more), found out that my Ashford Traditional was in the car. They made me go get it! And I haven't been the same ever since. I didn't realize when I first started going how eager everyone was to share their talents with newcomers.

Now I'm one of them who likes to share my spinning talents with other people. And I don't think I would trade that for anything. I am glad I have had the guild to help me along the many different roads that life has led me on.

The many wonderful ladies from the guild signed this book for me. They debated getting more fiber, but decided the book would be easier to move. Thank you so much! I have enjoyed reading all your little notes and special thoughts and it will be a very nice reminder to me of what you all have meant to me.

Spinners Saturday

I have to show the latest in the baby sweaters. This one is going to my boss's new grandson. I really like how it turned out. I used a little over one skein of Lion Brand Wool-ease and most of a skein of Knitpicks sock yarn. The colors worked so well together that I am half-tempted to use the same yarn to make a sweater for the new grand-baby due in July. If I find just the right pattern, I might just do it.


The spinners group met today. It was good to go chat, eat and see what everyone is doing. I am amazed at how accomplished our group is. See the blue sock at the left side of the picture? Carol is showing us how she darns. She passed the sock around when the darning was completed and everyone was examining it. You couldn't hardly see where she had been working!

I have been busy knitting on my silk challenge. The first repeat is done and I am almost finished with the second repeat. I like how it is working up. I think this project will be one that will be worn and worn. At least, I hope that will be the case.

I also started a new spinning project. I am working on two pounds of fiber from the Copper Moose which I ordered in January 2007. I ordered this fiber after reading about it on the Knitter's Review. I am anxious to see how it will turn out. It is called "Confetti" and has a cream base with multi-colored bits throughout.

After spinners I took M down to live with her mother for a while. She thinks she can get a better job in SLC and there is more public transport there than there is here. She doesn't have the money to buy a car and neither do ES and I, with the move and everything. I think she will be happy there. There is a lot more to do and she will be closer to her twin, A-g.

If I hurry, I might have time to work on my challenge before I really get tired and need to go to sleep.

Spinners weekend

This is what happened on Saturday. Lots of knitting, spinning and talking. Lynn was really interested in the socks Becky had made and asked lots of questions. We met at Heather's new house, what a beautiful place! A few of us also went to the new yarn store in Pocatello, Mustard Seed Dreams. What a neat store!


I got more of the "sea foam" spun, you can see it in the background behind Lynn who is sitting on the floor. It really is working up nicely! This is the project that is dedicated to the Hitchhiker until completely spun. I have one more full ziploc of fiber left.



On Saturday evening, ES and I attended a Chukar's game. I took my knitting with me, so I had my own little "Stitch & Pitch" night. I got the blue baby sweater almost completed. I took a couple of pictures with my phone camera, but I couldn't figure out how to get them to here. The Chukar's lost, by the way. It was a boring game except for when the foul ball came our way and hit ES in the stomach and bounced off his leg. No injuries for him, not even a bruise! I thought I would be hit for sure!
